GBS Sportscast week 12 - NOT!

Boys,

No sportscast this week, I got nothing for ya, and big plans for the start of the playoffs.

Here’s the deal:

Congrats to the Dutchmen, Wolfpack, Slackers, Badass, and especially to Black Label Society for clinching a playoff spot. It looks like The Dutchmen have locked up 1st seed with over a 200 point differential in any tiebreaker wit the Wolfpack. The other seeds are really up for grabs, with the Pack, Slack, and Beantown grabbing any one of the next three spots.

We have 3 teams inside the bubble and 2 outside. For the Spanker, Buckeyes, and Geeks, it’s simply “win and you’re in”. The Spankers get the Slackers, Buckeyes get the fading Punishers, and the game of the week could be the Geeks and the Wolfpack. The Geeks have beaten the pack in the Superbowl twice, so this is the chance for the pack to eliminate the geeks from the playoffs entirely. It won’t be easy, and likely won’t happen, but wouldn’t that be sweet…
For the Punishers and the Salty Balls, it doesn’t look good. Both teams need help. They are within 1 point of each other, and need at least a 35 point higher score than any of the teams inside to get in. The Punishers could write their own ticket by beating the Killerbuckeyes by 42 points, but the Salty Balls are playing the Dutchmen, and need to win HUGE while getting help.

So there you have it. The Sportcast will be back next week with playoff matchups, and hopefully some special guests.

Till then,

The Commish

A response from the Killer Buckeyes

This email just arrived at GBS HQ from JW of the Killerbuckeyes:

Hey what's up man...

I have been without a computer for about a 3weeks now , and I cannot access the site from work .. So my father in law has been trying to keep my team together but he has been out of town... This is an awesome league and I to be invited every year to play.. Just having some technical difficulties right now... And you suck...LOL...

We are currently working with JW to help him until he's back....

Killerbuckeyes on notice

This from the Commissioner:

I also noticed that JW had 3 guys on a bye, and made 2 attempts to notify him to update his lineup. He obviously did not do so. Upon further investigation, I found out that he has not logged into Yahoo since September 28. Now, I understand there may be many reasons for this, but his non-actions coupled with an email message to me that stated simply "you suck" leads me to wonder if this is not circumstance, but something more intentional. Until I hear from JW, I simply cannot tell.

Those of you that have been with GBS since it's infancy know that I strive to provide our teams with a highly competitive league, and more extracurricular fun than any other fantasy league in existence. The latter is merely a product of my insanity coupled with those who understand me. The former is the cornerstone of our fantasy league, and I have taken great care in selecting the teams to invite, and not inviting those who have been less than competitive in the previous year. The 2 California teams were not invited this year due to many infractions like this one in 2006. I truly believe all of you agree with this policy, as illustrated by the preceding post and a call I got on Sunday from the Spankers, who, at 0-5, were pissed that he was getting a free pass this week against the Killerbucks. I think Rick would rather be 0-6 against a competitive team, than to win in this fashion.

This is not a joke. I think you guys all know I take great pride in this league. Therefore, as commissioner, I have decided to step in and, in the interest of protecting the integrity of the league for the other teams, I have prevented the Killerbuckeyes from making any moves that would damage his team. He is currently able to set his lineup, but until I get to the bottom of this, I will be monitoring the team closely. The details of my actions can be viewed in the transactions log on the league home page. I will invoke my power to take over the team completely and make any moves neccesary using the players currently on that team to field a competitive starting lineup starting in week 7.

As I said before, there may be perfectly legitimate circumstances causing this, and if that is the case, I will return complete control over to JW. I will keep all of you informed via this medium if there are any further developments. Please feel free to voice your opinions on this matter.

The Commish

An open post to the Killerbuckeyes...

Please read this slowly.

When players on your roster have "bye" next to their names , this means the team they play on does not have a scheduled game that week due to league expansion several years back. (number of teams over a 16 game season means there must be bye weeks). Now that I explained to you what the term "bye" means...

If you have to read the first paragraph again , please feel free to do so...

This is not to say from time you may be put in a situation where you simply don't have the bench players to fill the holes in your roster. So when you start Big Ben on a "bye" and leave a 21 point Drew Brees on your bench , I have to ask myself , "maybe they do really inbreed in Ohio". When you carry 2 lack luster defenses instead of an extra wide receiver , I have to ask myself , " was the Killerbuckeye in some state of euphoria knowing that Ohio State would most likely move to number 1 in the BCS?". And how about no kicker? No kicker? Kickers are like free money... I don't really have the answers to these questions , all I know is that lineup should go down as the worst starting lineup in GBS history. Well played!

Week 5 Sportscast?

Sources from GBS Headquarters have issued an announcement:

FROM The Office of the Commissioner of GBS Sports Fantasy Football
RE: The Sportscast for Week 5

The Commissioner has announced that, like Donald Driver, Laurence Maroney, Todd Heap, Joseph Addai, and others, the Commish's appearance on the wildly popular weekly Sportscast will be a gametime decision. Check back just before broadcast time to see what happens...AS always, thank you for your support.

Oh, and one more thing. Could someone from the Ohio Division pass the word to the Indians to take care of the friggin Yankees already? And when you do, make sure you yuck it up, because this season, it will be the last chance you get to celebrate....

Go Sox,
The Commish

PS. A programming note: Be sure to watch the new NBC series "CANE" starring Jimmy Smits and that cute white detective from NYPD Blue. It's like the Cuban Sopranos!

Big D at Buffalo tonight and huge GBS implications!

4 out of 5 matchups tonight have dependencies on tonights game- personally I am shooting for Marshawn Lynch to score 8-15 points , that will give me a win in my other league and maintain a win in this league -
All in all it should make for a stellar Week 5 GBS Sports report!!!!

GBS Sportscast week 4

A whole new level of broadcasting!

It's Thursday...Do you know where your Week 4 GBS Sports Page is?

Sources out of Fitchburg MA are telling GBS News that the commish was seen streaking down route 2 after the Geeks Ocho Cinco failed to score the 13 points needed to upset the Wolfpack.
We can not be sure about this , but one thing we are sure about , the week 4 sports page is MIA!!!

Commish - Champ Showdown! Dutchmen trying to Lick the Balls

If Ocho Cinco can grab 14 points tonight - the reigning GBS Champ can claim back to back victories against the Commish's Wolfpack.
If the Geeks fail - well - it does not really matter as the Geeks own the Wolfpack in the playoffs and have for years!!!

The Flying Dutchmen could conceivably catch up to "Choclate" Salty Balls tonight with Brady , Welker, and Whosyourmama going tonight for the "Dutchmin"

GBS Sportspage Week 3

I got $50 bucks that says Coyne is not wearing pants in this one...

I am always amazed...

...with peoples strategies - many of you know I have long believed in picking up several defenses throughout the course of the season based on matchup - this has served me well. After all, I am a 3 time GBS Champion ;-) Anyway , I observed an agressive strategy after week 3 - the first place Slackers dropped DeShaun Foster and Kevin Curtis after solid week 3's. Is the Slacker coach a moron or a brilliant mastermind. What I can say is I am leaning toward mastermind as the pickups made (Hasselbeck and T. Jones) look like good week 4,5,and 6 choices based on matchup - I guess only time will tell.

Monday Night Showdown Week 3...or not

Well it looks like MNF won't matter this week - and it looks like a few of the winless teams (like me) will get off the snide this week -However , the Spankers and Buckeyes will continue to hold strong in the basement!
